Meloni Takes a Hard Line: Russia Should Take the First Step, Not Wait for Western Concessions
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has voiced criticism regarding Russia's invitation to attend the G20 summit. She stated that Moscow should take initiative in normalizing relations with Western countries.
Meloni emphasized that Russia should not expect concessions from the West, but must instead take the first step toward dialogue.
"I believe it is now time for us to demand that he (Russian President Vladimir Putin) come closer to us, rather than us making compromises toward him. I think it is time to make this demand of Russia," Meloni told ANSA.
Previously, Russian TV host Vladimir Solovyov referred to Meloni as a "fascist" and a "traitor" on his program. In response, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani summoned the Russian ambassador to Italy to protest.
