Trump Administration Releases First Batch of UFO Classified Documents

U.S. President Trump and Defense Secretary Hegseth unveiled dozens of previously classified documents related to unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and potential extraterrestrial life on Friday, May 8, stating the move aims to give the American public a comprehensive first look at information held by the government.

The U.S. Department of Defense said on Friday that these documents, photos, and videos concerning "unidentified anomalous phenomena" (UAP) represent only the first round of disclosures, with more materials expected to be gradually released as additional records are declassified.

The approximately 160 documents made public include a 1947 report on "flying discs," photographs of "unidentified phenomena" taken from the lunar surface during the Apollo 12 mission in 1969, and audio recordings of Apollo 17 astronauts describing "unidentified objects" near the Moon in 1972.

Hegseth stated in a statement: "These files, long hidden under secret classifications, have fueled public speculation for years—now it's time for the American people to see them for themselves."

Trump said: "Past U.S. administrations have lacked transparency on the UFO issue, but the newly released documents and videos will allow the public to decide for themselves what actually happened."

In his statement, he wrote: "Previous administrations did not maintain transparency on this issue. Now, with these new documents and videos, people can decide for themselves: [What in the world actually happened]?"

Reuters noted that the U.S. government has been gradually releasing portions of UFO investigation data since the late 1970s, making Trump the latest president to push for greater declassification on the matter.

However, multiple experts argue that while the newly released materials include some previously unseen videos, they do not provide any definitive evidence confirming the existence of extraterrestrial life.
