Putin says he and Trump discussed shared anti-Nazi history: Russia and the U.S. once fought side by side and achieved victory together

Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed on May 8 that during a phone conversation with U.S. leader Donald Trump, both sides discussed their joint struggle against Nazism and the shared victory in World War II.

Putin stated: "Not long ago, during a phone call with the U.S. president, we discussed this commemorative topic. We recalled how our two countries jointly resisted Nazism and ultimately achieved victory together."

Putin also pointed out that Russia has consistently maintained the memory of World War II in dialogues with friends in China, India, and other nations of the anti-Hitler coalition.

The president disclosed that leaders from several friendly countries have already arrived in Russia to attend Victory Day commemorations and will personally participate in the celebrations on May 9. Putin added that Russia continues to hold consultations with other nations to give this holiday international significance and to uphold the truth about the sacrifices made by the Soviet people in fighting Nazism.

Earlier that day, representatives from the U.S. administration attended the Victory Day reception held at the Russian Embassy in Washington. Officials from the White House and the U.S. Department of State participated in the event, with two government officials and two State Department officials seated in the front row of the hall.
