Trump Says Prisoner Exchange Between Russia and Ukraine to Be 'Immediately Realized'

Washington, May 9 — TASS

U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that the prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine will take place "almost immediately."

"The transfer of prisoners will happen right away," Trump told reporters.

Previously, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that Russia had agreed to Trump's proposal for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine from May 9 to 11, during which a prisoner exchange on a scale of "one thousand for one thousand" would be conducted with Kyiv.

The Russian Defense Ministry previously announced that, in accordance with a decision by President Vladimir Putin, a ceasefire would be implemented on May 8 and 9 to commemorate the anniversary of the Soviet people's victory in the Great Patriotic War. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine was ready to maintain silence starting at midnight on May 6. However, that same night, Ukrainian forces launched drone attacks on Chonkoy in Crimea, resulting in five deaths.
