German media: China orders at least 10 more ships of soybeans

The White House announced that China will purchase 12 million tons of U.S. soybeans this year.

According to two sources familiar with the matter, China has purchased at least 10 ships of U.S. soybeans since Tuesday, November 25, worth about $300 million.

Reuters believes that the amount of soybeans purchased this time exceeds expectations, but continues the recent trend of a surge in Chinese purchases following the easing of U.S.-China trade relations.

A trader said that China purchased about 12 ships of soybeans, while another trader estimated the purchase volume between 10 to 15 ships. The weight of each ship of soybeans is approximately 60,000 to 65,000 tons. Sources also informed that all the goods are planned to be loaded from U.S. Gulf Coast ports and Pacific Northwest ports in January next year.

According to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, COFCO, a Chinese state-owned enterprise, has taken the lead in the procurement, having booked nearly 2 million tons of U.S. soybeans since late October.

However, U.S. Treasury Secretary Biden stated on Tuesday that the plan for China to purchase U.S. soybeans is "fully on track," citing an agreement that Beijing will purchase 8.75 million tons of U.S. soybeans over the next three and a half years.
