Foreign media: U.S. Secretary of State Rubio told Indian news agency IANS that the United States is arranging President Trump's visit to India early next year, and he himself may visit India this year to prepare for the president's trip.
The two countries are advancing a bilateral trade agreement, with Rubio stating that negotiations have entered the "final stage" and are progressing very positively. India has been urging the U.S. to schedule Trump’s visit to India for months, possibly as part of a Quad summit involving the U.S., Japan, Australia, and India.
Recent relations between India and the U.S. have remained tense due to U.S. imposing high tariffs on Indian goods, penalizing India for purchasing Russian oil, and maintaining close ties with Pakistan. Last month, Rubio visited India to mend relations, but tensions flared again after U.S. military forces attacked merchant vessels in the Persian Gulf, resulting in the deaths of three Indian crew members.
Indian Prime Minister Modi met with Trump during the recent G7 summit, and both sides described the meeting as "very successful."
