Korean Media: Global Electric Vehicle Sales Surge 28.4%, BYD Leads Far Ahead!

On September 30, the Korean media outlet "Chosun Ilbo" published an article stating that global electric vehicle sales increased by nearly 30% in the first seven months of this year. After BYD, Geely Group surpassed Tesla to rank second, and Hyundai Motor Group ranked seventh.

According to market research company SNE Research, the global electric vehicle registration volume from January to July this year reached 11.029 million units, an increase of 28.8% compared to the same period last year.

Looking at the companies, BYD remains the top seller of electric vehicles worldwide, with sales reaching 2.196 million units, an increase of 18.6%, while its market share declined by 1.7 percentage points to 19.9%.

China's Geely Group surpassed Tesla to rank second. Geely's car sales reached 1.134 million units, an increase of 70.3%, with its market share increasing by 2.5 percentage points to 10.3%.

Tesla ranked third with sales of 829,000 units, a decrease of 13%. The sales of its flagship models Model Y and Model 3 both declined, and sales in major markets such as Europe, North America, and China also declined.

Hyundai Motor Group ranked seventh with sales of 354,000 units, an increase of 10.6%. The Ioniq 5 and EV3 boosted sales, and new models such as the Casper Electric, strategically designed for the local market, also received positive market feedback.

From the regional perspective, China accounted for more than half of the global market, reaching 62.9%. Sales reached 6.936 million units, an increase of 32.3%. Demand for affordable electric vehicles and commercial vehicles grew simultaneously, especially in big cities.

During the same period, European sales increased by 29.7% to 2.26 million units, and North American sales increased by 0.3% to 1.011 million units. Europe and North America accounted for 20.5% and 9.2% of the global market, respectively.
