South Korean media: After BYD, another Chinese automaker enters the top ten in global sales!

On September 24, the South Korean media "Chosun Ilbo" published an article stating that Chinese domestic automakers BYD and Geely saw significant sales growth this year, with their global rankings rising.

According to data released by various automakers, in the global car sales ranking for the first half of this year, Toyota Motor ranked first with 5.54 million units sold, followed closely by Volkswagen with 4.4 million units. Hyundai-Kia ranked third with 3.65 million units, an increase of 1% year-on-year. General Motors ranked fourth, Stellantis fifth, and Ford sixth.

BYD ranked seventh with 2.14 million units sold, an increase of 33% year-on-year. Considering that it is only 10,000 units behind Ford in sixth place, and taking into account the sales growth rates of both BYD and Ford, it is expected that BYD's annual sales will surpass Ford this year, moving up to sixth place.

Geely ranked eighth with 1.93 million units sold, an increase of 29% year-on-year. Honda ranked ninth, Suzuki tenth, and Nissan eleventh.

BYD and Geely are the only two automakers among the top ten with sales growth exceeding 10%. Following last year when BYD's sales surpassed Honda and Nissan, Geely also overtook Honda and Nissan. Geely's annual sales ranking rose two places from tenth to eighth last year.

The growth in sales of BYD and Geely is attributed to the strong sales of new energy vehicles in China, especially BYD's overseas sales increased by 132% year-on-year in the first half of this year.

Geely's new energy vehicle sales reached 720,000 units, an increase of 126% year-on-year. Geely plans to launch five new energy vehicle models in the second half of the year.

In the first half of this year, China's new energy vehicle sales reached 6.93 million units, an increase of more than 40%, accounting for 44.3% of total vehicle sales.

In the Chinese automobile market, the sales of Honda and Nissan declined by more than 17% year-on-year this year, and automakers such as Suzuki and Mitsubishi have already exited the Chinese market.
