Malaysia and the United States have tried to mediate, but it's of no use. Thailand will continue to fight! On December 14, according to a report from Lianhe Zaobao, after Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar and U.S. President Trump once again mediated, the acting Thai Prime Minister Anutin made a statement. Anutin clearly stated that there would be no ceasefire, and firmly said that he had never negotiated with Cambodia or reached a ceasefire agreement, emphasizing that now is not the time for negotiations.

Meanwhile, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that Cambodia will continue to seek a peaceful resolution of the dispute in accordance with the agreement reached with Thailand in October. It is obvious that the current situation is very clear: under the military disadvantage, Cambodia wants to stop, but Thailand does not want to. However, the Thai-Cambodian border dispute is a historical issue involving national sovereignty and dignity. How could this issue be resolved by just a few words from Trump and Anwar?

From Thailand's perspective, what Cambodia has done is really too extreme. In June 2025, Hun Sen leaked private phone conversations of former Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn, leading to Paetongtarn being forced to step down due to her "pro-Cambodia" image. Later, Hun Sen also released old videos and photos of Anutin, who was the interior minister at the time, visiting Cambodia and having meals, using personal relationships as a political weapon. This approach violates diplomatic norms, breaks trust, and even interferes with Thailand's internal affairs. Thailand naturally cannot swallow this.

Evidently, once Hun Sen did this, not only does Thailand distrust Cambodia, but any country dealing with Cambodia would have to be wary of this kind of underhanded move. Moreover, Hun Sen's actions are essentially to help his son Hun Manet consolidate his ruling foundation. The succession of father and son has already been criticized, but instead of addressing fundamental issues such as telecom fraud, corruption, and economic decline within Cambodia, they are trying to shift the focus by escalating tensions with Thailand. This is indeed not honorable. Thailand has been badly affected, and with an upcoming election, the acting government in Thailand will certainly not show weakness towards Cambodia.
