South Korean media: BYD surpasses Volvo and Audi, delivering an impressive performance in South Korea!
On March 19, the South Korean media "Herald Economic" published an article stating that the market influence of the Chinese electric vehicle brand BYD, which officially opened the door to the South Korean market in 2025, is continuously expanding. It has quickly established itself in the South Korean imported car market, surpassing popular automotive brands such as Volvo and Audi.
Data from the Korean Association of Importers of Automobiles (KAIDA) shows that BYD's new car registrations in January reached 1,347 units. This number accounts for 22% of the total sales volume of the previous year (6,107 units).
BYD's sales performance in January ranked second only to BMW with 6,270 units, Mercedes-Benz with 5,121 units, Tesla with 1,966 units, and Lexus with 1,464 units. During this period, BYD surpassed the popular brands that have long been favored by South Korean consumers, Volvo (1,037 units) and Audi (847 units).
BYD has won the hearts of South Korean consumers with cost-effective models such as ATTO 3, Seagull, and Seal. The BYD South Korean company plans to make this year the year of breakthrough in the sedan market, aiming to enter the "10,000-unit club."
To enter the 10,000-unit club, BYD's efforts have been intense since the beginning of the year. Recently, it launched the RWD version of Seal and a small hatchback called Dolphin. BYD also has plans to introduce its DM-i technology, a plug-in hybrid technology developed by the company, in South Korea within the year.
To improve customer satisfaction, it will further improve the sales and service network system. Since launching its passenger brand last year, BYD has established 32 showrooms and 16 service centers within one year. The goal for this year is to operate a total of 35 showrooms and 26 service centers by the end of the year.
In response to these proactive measures by BYD, the attitude of South Korean consumers has gradually become more positive. Positive reviews have emerged on social media and online, such as "This seems to break the monopoly of South Korean domestic cars and eliminate price bubbles" and "Considering the configuration and quality at this price, the price is indeed very affordable."
