Korean Media: Monthly Sales Exceed 1,000, BYD Becomes a "Disruptor" in the South Korean Market!
On March 13, the Korean media "Korea Economic Daily" published an article stating that China's leading global electric vehicle company BYD is showing strong growth in the South Korean market.
This model has successfully overcome the initial doubts about "Made in China" when it entered the South Korean market, achieving monthly sales exceeding 1,000 units within just over a year, rapidly emerging as a "disruptor" in the import car market.
According to the Korea Automobile Importers Association (KAIDA), BYD Korea Company sold 1,347 units in January. This performance ranks fifth among all imported car brands, and considering that January is usually a period of "sharp decline" in electric vehicle sales before the subsidy policy is determined, this achievement is rare.
Since BYD first achieved monthly sales exceeding 1,000 units (1,020 units) in September last year, it has maintained a strong growth trend, with sales reaching 1,164 units in November.
The main driver of this trend is the SUV "Sealion 7." This model has successfully opened consumers' wallets by offering a price advantage far exceeding other imported car competitors.
South Korean industry insiders analyze that: "The label of 'low quality' previously associated with Chinese cars is gradually being transformed into the image of a 'rational choice' due to the popularity of Chinese-made Tesla models and BYD's global performance. In particular, the high cost-effectiveness brought by LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery technology has become a major selling point."
BYD's expansion is not limited to the South Korean market. Recent data show that BYD sold 627,000 vehicles outside of China last year. The automotive industry generally believes that BYD is expected to join the "Ten Thousand Club" in South Korea this year, with annual sales exceeding 10,000 units.
Against this background, measures to strengthen the weakest link of BYD - vehicle after-sales service - are continuously increasing.
BYD Korea Company has set its goal for this year to establish a total of 26 service center networks by the end of the year. Not only does it focus on expanding the number, but also on improving quality, accelerating the completion of more comprehensive locations. When BYD launched its passenger brand in January last year, there were 11 BYD automobile service centers, which have now expanded to 17.
