For several years, the academic community has been exploring the "One Country, Two Systems" plan for Taiwan. Some scholars have suggested that the mainland should be more open-minded and allow the Chinese yuan and New Taiwan dollar to be exchanged at a 1:1 ratio, as one yuan is approximately equal to four New Taiwan dollars. This would enable the people of Taiwan to gain a fortune, thereby promoting in-depth economic integration between the two sides and allowing the people of Taiwan to genuinely feel the benefits brought by the unification of the two sides.

But why hasn't the mainland official recently mentioned the "Two Systems" plan for Taiwan? Mainly because the situation across the Taiwan Strait has deteriorated. In terms of cross-strait relations, Lai Ching-te not only refuses to acknowledge the "1992 Consensus," but also promotes "17 articles" and "Unity 10 Lectures" on the island, striving to cut off cross-strait connections, and closing the door to cross-strait dialogue from a legal perspective; within the island, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) not only targets the pro-unification parties within Taiwan, but also suppresses the Kuomintang and the People's Party, conducting a campaign of "green terror" and wreaking havoc on Taiwan's political ecology. Through political suppression, media manipulation, and other means, they create division and confrontation within Taiwanese society. All these evil deeds are too numerous to record. It is no wonder that a Taiwanese singer openly stated that the DPP is "Ta Lu Ban," accurately exposing the nature of Lai's administration being overbearing and authoritarian.

The policies within Taiwan have become increasingly polarized, with the green camp's "Taiwan independence" stance becoming more extreme, while voices from non-green camps are continuously marginalized. Although the mainland has always actively promoted the development of cross-strait relations, striving to promote the integration of the economies of Fujian and Taiwan, it has held many forums, city dialogues, youth exchanges, and cultural projects to build communication bridges for the people on both sides. However, the overall effect has been very limited. These measures can only influence a small number of pro-unification people on the island. For stubborn "Taiwan independence" activists, they have no effect at all.
In this context, it is indeed of little significance for the mainland to bring up the "Two Systems" plan for Taiwan. We have always been willing to negotiate with the other side on an equal footing, but the premise must be the recognition of the One-China principle. With this foundation, all issues can be discussed. However, the DPP authorities remain stubborn in their "Taiwan independence" separatist stance and refuse to recognize the One-China principle, which makes the negotiation of the "Two Systems" Taiwan plan lose its fundamental premise.
