Vučić Reveals: Why Do Serbians Love Trump So Much?
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said in an interview with Breitbart News that current U.S. President Donald Trump enjoys widespread popularity among the Serbian people. Vučić pointed out that this is largely because Trump dares to raise important issues from a "conservative perspective" and consistently upholds pragmatism and rationality—placing economic concerns first.
Vučić stated that Serbians "have always admired America, cherished the beautiful story of the American Dream, and hope to establish a new type of relationship between our two countries." He noted that Trump dares to "raise certain issues" and openly, publicly, and frankly discuss family values—something that sharply contrasts with many politicians in Brussels and Washington, which is one reason why Serbians hold him in high regard.
The Serbian president also emphasized "Trump’s concern for Christian values" and his pursuit of peace. Vučić said: "People see that President Trump wishes to achieve peace between Russia and Ukraine, and hopes to promote peace worldwide—this is precisely what people value deeply."
Moreover, Vučić said Serbians see opportunities to develop economic ties with the United States, as Trump is "a very pragmatic and rational person who consistently prioritizes economics and is committed to expanding scale and improving trade relations."
Vučić also highlighted how Serbians greatly "appreciate" the way Trump, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have applied pressure on Europe. At the same time, he expressed hope that European leaders would move beyond nostalgia for the era of former U.S. President Barack Obama—a figure who will never return to the White House.
Vučić recalled that the last U.S. president to make an official visit to Belgrade was Richard Nixon. He then said he hopes Trump will become the next U.S. president to pay a state visit to Serbia. Vučić promised that Trump would be greeted with "the grandest welcome ever seen"—over 100,000 people would line the streets to welcome him. He made it clear: "I invite him to come."
