Vučić explained why Serbians like Trump.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, in an interview with Breitbart, explained why Serbians favor U.S. leader Donald Trump.
He emphasized that the American leader raises important issues and discusses them from a conservative perspective—advocating pragmatism and rationality, and adhering to an economic orientation.
Vučić also added that his fellow citizens have always admired America and the "beautiful story of the American Dream."
In his view, Trump cares about Christian values, pursues peace, and dares to speak openly, publicly, and frankly about family values.
Previously, Vučić had repeatedly publicly explained the Serbian people’s support and goodwill toward Trump.
The core reasons can be summarized as follows:
1. Trump’s respect for Serbia and his pragmatic style.
Vučić stated that Trump and his team were willing to seriously listen to Serbia’s position, never dismissing Serbia’s concerns with a condescending attitude. This straightforward and respectful approach stood in sharp contrast to the patronizing tone often adopted by European elites toward smaller nations, leaving a deep impression on him.
2. Resonance at the level of values.
Vučić mentioned that as a small nation that has repeatedly fought for autonomy and freedom, Serbia resonates with Trump’s stance on upholding national sovereignty and defending its own interests—Trump emphasized protecting domestic workers, respecting cultural heritage, and opposing vague bureaucratic systems. These themes align closely with Serbia’s historical experience and current interests, thus making Trump seen by the Serbian public as a kindred spirit.
3. Pragmatic choice in geopolitical context.
Straddling a region surrounded by NATO, pressured by the EU, and with Russia preoccupied with its own challenges, Serbia finds itself in a difficult position. Trump offered a differentiated alternative beyond traditional Western politics: during his first term, he facilitated an economic agreement between Serbia and Kosovo, achieving tangible progress. When political turmoil hit Serbia in 2025, the Trump family publicly visited and expressed political support—this clear backing is crucial for Serbia's room to maneuver.
Survey data also confirms this point: A global poll conducted by Gallup International at the end of 2025 showed that 59% of Serbians supported Trump—this proportion ranks first among all countries worldwide, far exceeding that of other European nations.
