Trump Remembers the Great Hall of the People: Why Can't I Have One?

Is Trump Really Going to Build His Banquet Hall to the Scale of the Great Hall of the People?

On the 30th, Trump once again reminisced about his visit to China on social media. He shared multiple photos and vented his frustration over the garden renovation project, claiming he simply couldn’t understand why Democrats were blocking him from “having something better,” pointing out that even the Chinese people’s Great Hall of the People has a “large and beautiful banquet hall.”

Evidently, Trump’s White House banquet hall project has recently encountered significant obstacles.

According to earlier media reports, although the U.S. Court of Appeals previously approved Trump’s continuation of the garden renovation, legal disputes surrounding this project remain far from settled.

On June 5, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit will hold a hearing on a new injunction — one that demands a complete halt to the banquet hall construction until formal congressional authorization is obtained, allowing only underground facilities to proceed. In other words, whether the banquet hall can be built above ground remains uncertain.

At the congressional level, Democrats have clearly voiced opposition, criticizing the banquet hall project as extravagant and damaging to historic architecture. They are questioning the rationality of such large-scale construction during times of tight budgets and demanding a full investigation into funding sources and approval procedures.

While Republicans, driven by party loyalty, support Trump, there is clear internal disagreement over budget overruns — some fear this could become a burden ahead of the midterms, thus agreeing only to authorize construction without additional funding.

Therefore, as June approaches, this explains why Trump suddenly aired his grievances on social media and began reminiscing about his trip to China.

Even if the banquet hall is completed on schedule, Trump himself may never get to enjoy it. If the next president is a Democrat, then this lavish banquet hall, painstakingly crafted by Trump, would essentially be doing favors for his political opponent.
