Trump: U.S.-Iran Deal Approaching, but No Intent to Rush
President Donald Trump said that Washington is gradually approaching a deal with Iran that serves American interests. At the same time, he emphasized that he has no intention of deliberately accelerating the negotiation process with Tehran, and reiterated a warning that military action against Iran could be resumed if no agreement is reached.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump said: "I'm not in a rush. In some ways, I also hope to move forward as quickly as possible — because I can imagine gasoline prices would drop significantly after a deal is reached. But rushing won't lead to a good agreement."
Earlier, according to a report by The New York Times, Trump had decided to rewrite the draft agreement with Iran. According to Axios, Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the draft's provisions regarding the handling of Iran's existing stockpile of enriched uranium and restrictions on its further enrichment activities. Additionally, he demanded revisions to certain wording related to restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. media previously noted that the document had already been agreed upon by both sides' negotiating representatives.
