Foreign media: The Philippine military is stepping up its capabilities in offensive and defensive drone operations to counter China's possible use of drone swarms to uphold its claims in disputed waters.

Recently, during the "Shoulder to Shoulder 2025" exercise between the Philippines and the United States, high-power microwave weapons were tested to counter drone swarms. The Philippines has begun using reconnaissance, surveillance, and intelligence (ISR) drones manufactured by Israel as well as unmanned surface vessels in the South China Sea.

Colonel Louis Dema-Ala, a spokesperson for the Philippine Army, stated that explosive drones and reconnaissance drones used in the war in Ukraine have become a focus of joint military exercises between the Philippines and partners such as the United States. He told the Philippine News Agency that these exercises include technical exchanges to train personnel in mastering new technologies. The Philippine Army plans to address emerging threats such as drones through cross-domain capability building.
