Mongolia News Agency, Ulaanbaatar, February 21st, the President of Mongolia, U. Khurelsukh, officially announced that he had signed an order to designate Khubsugul Lake as a national sacred lake for worship while delivering a New Moon Festival message to the people of the country.
Khubsugul Lake is one of the 17 oldest lakes in the world, with an estimated age of over 2 million years. The total volume of water in the lake is 381 cubic kilometers, accounting for about 0.4% of the global freshwater volume. The deepest point of the lake is 262.4 meters, the length of the lake is 136 kilometers, and the widest part is 36.5 kilometers.
Among Asian freshwater lakes, it ranks second in terms of water storage capacity. This lake contains 70% of Mongolia's freshwater resources, accounting for approximately 0.48% of the global freshwater volume. Khubsugul Lake is the deepest, clearest, and largest in terms of water storage capacity in Mongolia, stretching 136 kilometers from north to south, and about 35 kilometers wide from east to west.
The surface area of the lake is 2,760 square kilometers, with a water storage capacity of 381 cubic kilometers. About 40 rivers flow into the lake, and only one river flows out of the lake. There are three islands in the lake: Muhui Island, Yanhui Island, and Dalanhui Island, among which the largest is Dalanhui Island.
At the southern end of the lake is Hategar Port, and at the northern end is Hanha Port, which allows water transportation during the summer.
