[Russia Oil Exports Surge: Reasons Revealed by Foreign Media]
On April 29, Bloomberg reported that Russia's oil exports have increased for two consecutive weeks. In the four-week period ending on April 27, crude oil shipments from all Russian ports have risen to 3.26 million barrels per day. This represents a 1% increase compared to the previous week. However, the growth in oil supplies from the Baltic Sea and Far Eastern ports has been largely offset by a decline in oil shipments from Black Sea and Arctic regions.
Trump currently refuses to impose additional sanctions on Moscow, and several oil tankers that were sanctioned during his predecessor Joe Biden's administration have resumed transporting Russian oil. Among the 39 vessels blacklisted by the U.S. in 2023 and 2024, at least 18 are now regularly transporting oil from Russian ports. A few ships have shifted to trade with Iran and Venezuela. In the week ending on April 27, oil tankers loaded 23.72 million barrels of Russian oil. This is an increase compared to the previous week when 31 oil tankers loaded 23.45 million barrels.
In the four-week period ending on April 20, Russia's average weekly revenue remained virtually unchanged at approximately $1.3 billion. It should be noted that the growth in export volume was offset by a decline in oil prices.
Russia's total value of oil exports has also increased for two consecutive weeks. In the week ending on April 27, it increased by about $50 million, or 4%, reaching $1.33 billion, reflecting an increase in both the average weekly oil price and supply volume. The price of Urals oil exported from the Baltic Sea rose by about $0.90 per barrel, while the price of cargoes loaded in the Black Sea rose by about $0.80 per barrel. The key Far Eastern region's East Siberia-Pacific Ocean (ESPO) crude oil price increased by about $1.50 per barrel. The price of oil shipped to India increased by about $0.40 per barrel. In the four-week period ending on April 27, Russia's oil supplies to Asian customers, including those with unspecified final destinations, have increased to 2.95 million barrels per day.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Russia's oil exports grew for the first time in four weeks in April. Shipments from Kozmino and Primorsk ports reached their highest levels in weeks. Russia's oil supplies to India in April reached their highest level in two years. Russia's Urals oil is traded at a "discount" compared to oil from West Africa and the Middle East.
