AUKUS: The U.S.-led 'mini-lattice' of alliances plans joint development of new weapons for unmanned underwater vehicles

During the Shangri-La Dialogue, UK Defence Secretary John Healey announced that the UK plans to collaborate with the United States and Australia under the AUKUS security partnership framework to develop new weapons for unmanned underwater vehicles.

Speaking at a press conference prior to the trilateral meeting, Healey said: "We will work together to develop advanced sensors and weapons for unmanned underwater vehicles."

He pointed out that these new developments will be used to detect and neutralize threats to undersea cables and pipelines. London will allocate £150 million (approximately $200 million) to this project.

Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom will cooperate through the AUKUS trilateral defense mechanism, which was formally established in September 2021.
