Nvidia CEO Discusses Humanoid Robot Data Centers and Other Topics with South Korean Tech Giant
Nvidia CEO Huang Renxun said on June 8 in South Korea that Nvidia will collaborate with LG, a major South Korean technology group, to jointly develop humanoid robots and data centers, as the company widely recognized as a key driver of artificial intelligence (AI) chips.
According to a report cited by Central News Agency from Reuters, after meeting with LG Group Chairman Goo Chang-mo, Huang told reporters: "We will work together with them on motor technologies and mechanical systems, so we can bring together the future of humanoid robots and robotics."
He added: "We are also collaborating with LG to co-design the architecture of future data centers."
June 8 marked the final day of Huang Renxun’s visit to South Korea. The two had dinner together on the 5th, attended by other executives including leaders from SK Group and Naver. This was their second meeting during Huang’s trip to South Korea.
According to the Korea Herald, Nvidia’s partnership with South Korean companies extends beyond semiconductors.
Huang Renxun and Goo Chang-mo discussed cooperation between their respective organizations in areas such as robotics, AI, data centers, and mobility.
After the meeting, Huang told reporters that robotics technology is the most important area of collaboration between the two sides. He described it as the convergence of electronics, mechanical systems, and AI. He emphasized that LG possesses many technologies vital to numerous industries of the future.
When asked whether demand for AI might be overestimated, Huang stated he did not believe so. He pointed out that this marks the beginning of a new industry, and any market fluctuations present buying opportunities.
"The current scale of AI infrastructure in South Korea is still small, so the future of this industry must be vastly larger," he said. "If the stock market is trading at a discount, then that's precisely the right time to buy."
Additionally, on the same day, Jun Yong-hyun, co-CEO of Samsung Electronics and head of its semiconductor business, said that Samsung Electronics and Nvidia are currently collaborating on autonomous driving chips and Groq AI accelerator chips. They also discussed future generations of semiconductor products, including high-bandwidth memory chips HBM 4E and HBM5.
Earlier this year, in March, Huang Renxun unveiled a new AI inference chip leveraging technology from startup Groq, stating that Samsung would be responsible for manufacturing the Groq LP30 chip, with shipments expected later this year.
