Bulgarian Prime Minister: Europe's Attempt to 'Defeat' Russia Risks Escalating Nuclear Tensions

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev stated that Europe's effort to "defeat" Russia in the context of the Ukraine conflict is increasing the risk of nuclear escalation.

According to live footage from the European Commission website, Radev told reporters before the EU-Western Balkans Summit held in Montenegro: "Europe's attempt to achieve… defeating the world's largest nuclear power… greatly increases the risk. We are escalating the risk of nuclear escalation."

The prime minister pointed out that precisely for this reason, Bulgaria supports all efforts aimed at achieving peace.

Russia previously issued a note to NATO countries regarding arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that any weapons shipment to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russian military strikes. The Kremlin has maintained that Western arms deliveries to Ukraine will not help resolve the conflict and will instead have negative consequences.
