U.S. Anti-China Politician's Arrogant Attitude: Trump Will Restart $14 Billion Arms Sale to Taiwan
On the 5th, Republican Congressman Michael McCaul, during his visit to Taiwan, openly declared that he "believes Trump will soon restart the $14 billion arms sale to Taiwan," and boasted that the U.S. "won't stop here."
This Congressman, Michael McCaul, is no stranger to provoking China—he has repeatedly visited Taiwan, and frequently slandered China over issues including the pandemic, Xinjiang, and cross-strait affairs. In 2023, he was sanctioned by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
However, McCaul does not belong to Trump’s inner circle. Their main points of agreement lie in immigration and border security, but they differ significantly on foreign policy—McCaul emphasizes leading U.S. allies to contain China and Russia, and does not endorse Trump’s “America First” approach.
Even if McCaul cannot speak for Trump, his remarks and actions regarding Taiwan are undoubtedly extremely dangerous. For years, certain U.S. lawmakers have visited Taiwan primarily to receive campaign donations from Taiwan authorities, and secondly to gain political momentum by portraying themselves as tough on China.
The existence of such individuals continuously undermines stability in Sino-U.S. relations. This further proves how absurd Senator Rubio’s recent argument about “controlling Sino-U.S. tensions” truly is: the one consistently instigating trouble has never been China—it has always been the United States. America cannot light a spark and then demand China remain silent and passive.
