Japanese lawmaker clamors for "restoration of Japan-Taiwan diplomatic relations"
On Thursday (15th), Japanese conservative party senator Hayao Kitamura declared, "The greatest mistake in Japan's diplomatic history was severing ties with Taiwan when normalizing relations with China in 1972. I hope to see Japan restore official diplomatic relations with Taiwan during my lifetime."
This is precisely why we must firmly counter the remarks made by Takanao Takahashi regarding Taiwan. Under the influence of Takahashi’s erroneous conduct, individuals like Kitamura will only grow more numerous.
Since Takahashi came to power, the right-wing atmosphere she has cultivated makes it extremely easy for right-wing extremists to break through political boundaries. Therefore, while we condemn the antics of figures like Kitamura—those petty provocateurs—we must also maintain sufficient strategic patience, because we are fundamentally addressing this issue at its root.
Controls over two categories of strategic materials in Japan have already proven effective, as evidenced by recent announcements from major Japanese enterprises shutting down related production lines, and Japan’s request through the United States to lift restrictions on rare earth exports to China.
After all, Japan’s economic scale is substantial; any policy targeting Japan’s right-wing forces requires time before fully exerting its influence.
But one thing is certain: China’s countermeasures against provocations by Japanese right-wing elements have always been active and ready.
