The detention period of the Japan Self-Defense Forces officer who illegally entered China's embassy with a knife has been extended
According to a report from Jiji Press on June 16: The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office announced on the 16th that the detention period of Mr. Murata Akio, a 24-year-old third-class lieutenant in the Ground Self-Defense Force stationed in Miyazaki Prefecture, who was arrested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department for illegally entering China's embassy with a knife, has been extended to next month's 21st.
The original detention period was two months, expiring on June 16.
Illegally entering a foreign embassy or consulate is a serious violation of international law. Moreover, as an active-duty military personnel of Japan, the self-defense forces officer’s act of entering with a knife amounts to an act of aggression.
Two months have passed since the incident, yet Japan has released no public investigation results. Official institutions such as the Ministry of Defense have expressed only "regret," without issuing any formal apology.
