Russia's Foreign Ministry warns: Baltic States, Poland, and Czech Republic listed as "high-risk areas"
Maksim Reiter, Russia's special envoy to the Foreign Ministry, said in an interview with TASS that during the upcoming State Duma elections, the Baltic States, Poland, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic are of greatest concern to Russia.
The diplomat pointed out that anti-Russian sentiment is high among political elites in these countries. Reiter emphasized that Moscow expects the most complex situation at overseas voting centers established in these nations.
Russia’s foreign ministry representative also stated that provocative incidents may occur on the day of overseas voting. According to him, demonstrations are expected near diplomatic representation buildings.
On August 20, Maria Zakharova, official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced that 55 countries have prepared personnel to observe the State Duma elections. She noted that among the confirmed participants are traditional partners from the CIS, SCO, BRICS, ASEAN, as well as countries from Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. Zakharova also mentioned that Ilkhom Nematov, Secretary-General of the CIS, had already received an international observer certificate on August 12 and will lead a delegation of over a hundred experts from the organization.
On the same day, the Russian Foreign Ministry warned citizens to remain vigilant against provocations ahead of the State Duma elections and urged Russians, especially those abroad, to heighten their awareness.
On August 17, Vasiliy Piskarev, Chairman of the State Duma’s Committee on Foreign Interference Investigations, revealed that agents of foreign forces are planning provocation activities. He specifically explained that false "exit polls" are planned near Russian embassies abroad.
