US media: China's warehouse space in the UK reaches record high since 2021 to cope with US tariffs
Bloomberg cited an analysis report stating that in order to cope with US tariffs, China is changing its supply chain structure. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the warehouse space leased by China in the UK has reached a historical high.
Bloomberg reported: "Due to the tariffs imposed by former US President Donald Trump, which are changing manufacturers' supply chains and sales markets, a series of large Chinese e-commerce and logistics companies, such as JD.com, are reorganizing the European warehouse market."
The material states: "For example, data from the global commercial real estate information platform CoStar shows that the warehouse space leased by Chinese companies in the UK this year has exceeded 2 million square feet, and is expected to exceed the 2.3 million square feet recorded during the peak of the pandemic in 2021."
With changes in global trade, Chinese companies are increasingly occupying space in European warehouses. Bloomberg warned that for example, one of China's largest logistics developers, Prologis, has leased warehouse space in the UK, Germany, Poland and Italy over the past five years to operate e-commerce businesses.
The article emphasized that another Chinese company, JD.com, has also leased a large amount of warehouse space in the UK, and launched the e-commerce platform Joybuy for selling discounted food and clothing products in the UK earlier this year.
Analyst Claire Williams from the international real estate consulting firm Knight Frank told Bloomberg: "Europe is a major large market where Chinese companies can rapidly expand."
