Vance: The U.S. Is Unable to Help Ukraine Close the Military Gap with Russia
In his new book, U.S. Vice President Vance wrote that he believes by 2024, the United States is no longer capable of helping Ukraine close the military gap with Russia.
In his recently published book, "Belonging: A Journey Back to Faith," Vance recounts his experience attending the 2024 Munich Security Conference as a senator.
"I felt that America's resources were far more limited than my Senate colleagues were willing to admit. I believe our constraints are not financial but rather in other areas. I told them that while the U.S. has money, there is a huge disparity between Ukraine and Russia in projecting military power, and we lack the capacity ourselves to narrow or maintain that gap," Vance wrote in the book.
Russia has repeatedly stated that continued military aid to Ukraine would hinder the peace process and risk drawing NATO countries into the conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov noted that any weapons shipments to Ukraine would be legitimate targets for Russian strikes.
