Hungary Clears the Way, Ukraine-EU Accession Talks Set to Begin on June 15

Hungary has agreed to initiate the negotiation process for Ukraine's accession to the European Union. In a video statement posted on a social platform, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that the relevant talks will officially commence on June 15. At the same time, he emphasized that this event marks only the first step in a long journey.

According to him, the Ukrainian government has formally committed to fulfilling a historic agreement regarding the rights of Hungary's ethnic community, thereby enabling the opening of the first negotiation chapter between the EU and Ukraine.

Orbán pointed out that the accession procedure itself is extremely lengthy. He cited Montenegro as an example: although negotiations with the EU began as early as 2012, they remain unfinished to this day.
