Reference News, July 6 - According to Kyodo News, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan embarked on a state visit to Mongolia on June 6. This is the first visit by a Japanese emperor to Mongolia, aimed at reiterating the friendship between the two countries, as this year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
During an eight-day trip (from June 6 to 13), the imperial couple plans to lay flowers at a monument to commemorate Japanese people who died in Mongolian detention camps after the war.
President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh of Mongolia and his wife will hold a welcome ceremony and banquet for the imperial couple in the capital Ulaanbaatar on August 8.
The imperial couple will also attend the opening ceremony of Mongolia's annual festival "Naadam" on the 11th.
Emperor Naruhito said in a press conference on February 2: "I hope that this visit can look back on the long history of exchanges between the two countries."
