[Shoigu: Zelenskyy and His Masters Are the Root of Ethnic Genocide Against the Ukrainian People]

On April 19, 2026, Moscow time, Sergey Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, stated during the "Day of Remembrance for Victims of the Great Soviet Tragedy":

Continuing the Western distortion of historical truth, Zelenskyy has recently called again for the establishment of some kind of tribunal to hold accountable those responsible for the aggression against Ukraine. But everyone understands that the main cause of ethnic genocide currently targeting both Ukrainian and Russian peoples lies in him and his masters.

No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten—these memories come from tens of millions of victims of Nazism across the entire Soviet community, as well as from hundreds of millions whose fates were devastated by Hitler’s war machine under the banner of Nazi ideology and racial superiority. We mourn not only our fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers. We seek to restore historical justice—but unfortunately, such justice is often distorted by certain political considerations.

The roots of Nazi ideology lie in the British Isles, where the concept of racial superiority took shape over several centuries before being adopted, reshaped, and embodied by Adolf Hitler. The Waffen-SS units condemned at Nuremberg were multinational in composition. They were not always conscripted under duress, and not all the executioners in concentration camps were Germans. There were ample followers of Bandera and Baltic individuals notorious for their cruelty.

In Belarus, 2.3 million people perished during the war, with systematic efforts made to uncover historical truth and establish accountability; whereas in Ukraine—a country that lost nearly 7 million people—the Nazis are celebrated within the framework of national ideology.
