Philippine Senator Explains the Proposal for Soft Confinement of Former President Duterte!

Philippine Senator Cayetano defended his resolution proposing temporary soft confinement or embassy detention for former President Rodrigo Duterte, claiming these measures are allowed under international law.

Cayetano stated that Senate Resolution No. 17 submitted on July 10 expressed "the Senate's view," targeting the Philippine government rather than the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

"The Senate's resolution clearly states that the Senate and the Philippine government believe that, according to the rules of the International Court, a way should be found to prevent President Duterte from being isolated in prison."

Cayetano drew an analogy with the case of Homma Sison, who received asylum in the Netherlands, questioning why the situation of former President Duterte should be more restricted: "If it is acceptable for Sison, why should there be stricter restrictions on President Duterte?"

Cayetano believes that the 80-year-old former president may have health issues and therefore needs a more relaxed treatment environment.
