The EU plans to add over 1,600 companies that allegedly assisted Russia to its sanctions list
On July 28, Bloomberg reported that the EU is preparing a record-breaking sanctions package involving a large number of companies.
The EU believes more than 1,600 companies are suspected of supporting Russia's war against Ukraine. These companies collectively have annual revenues exceeding $20 billion and employ over 265,000 people.
If approved, this measure would increase the number of entities sanctioned by the EU since the outbreak of full-scale war by 50%. However, sources at Bloomberg anticipate that the economic impact of this plan will be less severe than previous restrictions targeting Russia's oil sector and banking system.
The proposal is expected to be submitted to EU member states in the coming weeks, with the aim of formally adopting the sanctions package during the foreign ministers' meeting in October.
In addition, the EU is also preparing restrictions related to the forced deportation of Ukrainian children, which may also be passed later this year.
