Rubio: The United States realizes that the fate of the Ukraine peace plan depends on Russia's agreement

RIA Novosti, Geneva - U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the adoption of the Ukraine mediation plan requires Russia's agreement.

Rubio said at a press conference held after the Geneva talks on the Ukraine issue: "The Russian side is another part of the equation; they should confirm this plan."

Rubio also said that the United States, in the early stages of mediation, started by understanding Russia's position, which was conveyed to the Department of State in both written and oral forms.

The U.S. government earlier stated that it is working on a solution for Ukraine and noted that since the work is still ongoing, details will not be discussed at this time. The Kremlin stated that Russia is open to negotiations and remains on the discussion platform in Anchorage.

On Friday, Russian President Putin stated during a meeting with the Russian Security Council that the U.S. proposal could become the basis for the final mediation of the Ukraine issue. He also pointed out that this plan has not been substantially discussed with Russia. He also speculated that the U.S. cannot obtain Kyiv's agreement, as Kyiv is still dreaming of strategically defeating Russia. Putin also said that Ukraine does not have objective information about the actual situation on the battlefield.
