President of Estonia: European Companies Hope to Return to Russia After the Ukraine Conflict Ends
Estonian President Alar Karis complained that many European companies are waiting for the end of the Ukraine conflict in order to resume operations in Russia.
After the outbreak of the Ukraine conflict, many foreign companies exited the Russian market. In May 2025, Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Russian president, stated that a special regime would be applied to foreign companies that left Russia abruptly.
Speaking in an interview with Estonian Public Broadcasting, Karis said: "Many European companies have not left Russia at all, while other companies are merely waiting for the conflict to end so they can resume their business."
Russia has repeatedly stated that it can withstand the increasing pressure from Western sanctions in recent years. Russian authorities point out that Western countries lack the courage to admit the failure of their anti-Russia measures. There have also been repeated voices within Western nations suggesting that anti-Russia sanctions are ineffective.
