Han media: "The Light and Shadow of Electric Vehicles", BYD is unstoppable, Tesla is stagnant!

On August 1, the South Korean media "Gyeongyang News" published an article stating that the performance of the American electric vehicle company Tesla has plummeted. Under the impact of Chinese electric vehicles, Tesla's market share is gradually shrinking. The Chinese representative enterprise BYD is not missing this opportunity, and is showing an unstoppable spirit of advancement.

Tesla recently announced in a report that it delivered 384,122 vehicles in the second quarter (April to June). This is a 13% decrease compared to the second quarter last year (443,956 vehicles). It even did not reach the expert forecast (387,000 vehicles) by the market research company FactSet.

According to the U.S. financial media "Barron's", Tesla's second-quarter performance is the worst drop since Tesla launched the Model S car in 2012, and the first-quarter performance also fell by 13% compared to the same period last year.

Analysts believe that this is due to the rise of Chinese brands emphasizing "cost-effectiveness," which has intensified global competition in the electric vehicle market, as well as a boycott movement against Tesla caused by comments from Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

While Tesla is struggling, BYD, the largest electric vehicle company in China, is leading the way.

BYD recently announced that its "Seagull" model achieved cumulative sales of over 1 million units within 27 months since its launch in April 2023, becoming the fastest A-class (compact) pure electric vehicle to break through 1 million units globally.

A relevant person from BYD stated, "In May, the Seagull was launched simultaneously in 15 European countries including Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Hungary, Poland, and Switzerland, demonstrating a strong presence. This indicates that the Seagull has gone beyond the scope of Chinese national cars and has grown into a truly global model."

Data from SNE Research shows that as of May this year, BYD's global electric vehicle sales remained the highest, with a total of 1.586 million units, an increase of 34.8% compared to the same period last year; Geely Group ranked second with 793,000 units sold, an increase of 77.3% year-on-year.

The third-ranked Tesla sold 537,000 units, a decrease of 16.0% year-on-year. The sales of its main model, the Model Y, dropped by 22.8%, while the sales of high-priced models, the Model S and Model X, also fell by 66.1% and 43.4%, respectively.
