Han Media: Electric Vehicle Sales Rank First Globally in January-May, BYD Exceeds 1.5 Million Units!
On July 30, South Korean media "Herald Economic" published an article stating that as of May this year, with Chinese enterprises and markets at the center, global electric vehicle sales have increased by more than 30% compared to the same period last year.
Recently, market research company SNE Research announced that the number of new registered electric vehicles globally from January to May has increased by 32.4% compared to the same period last year, reaching a cumulative total of 7.52 million units.
These statistics include both pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
By group, BYD remains at the top with sales of 1.586 million units, an increase of 34.8%; Geely Group is second with sales of 793,000 units, an increase of 77.3%.
SNE Research said, "BYD is enhancing its brand awareness by leveraging price competitiveness and technical strength."
Third-ranked Tesla sold 537,000 units, a decrease of 16.0%. The sales of its flagship model Model Y decreased by 22.8%, while the sales of premium models Model S and Model X decreased by 66.1% and 43.4% respectively.
SNE Research said, "Tesla is continuing its strategy to enhance full self-driving (FSD) features and expand its software revenue model based on monthly subscriptions, but the performance improvements in the short term seem limited."
The Hyundai Motor Group ranks seventh with sales of 242,000 units, an increase of 9.2%. According to SNE Research report, with the addition of new car lineups such as EV4 and Ioniq 9, it is expected that its market share will expand in the medium to long term.
Regionally, China's market sales reached 4.718 million units, an increase of 39.2% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 62.7% of the global market share.
Among them, Europe's sales increased by 27.9% to 1.538 million units; North America's sales increased by 1.4% to 714,000 units; sales in Asian regions outside China increased by 44.9% to 412,000 units.
SNE Research analyzed, "The global electric vehicle market continues to grow, but due to changes in demand structure and policy environment, regional differences are becoming increasingly evident. Under the dual pressures of uncertain policy environments and declining profitability, companies are turning to technological internalization and localization strategies to ensure long-term competitiveness."
