Han media: Geely Auto Surpasses Tesla to Become the Second Largest Electric Vehicle Manufacturer!
On August 1, South Korean media "Chosun Ilbo" published an article stating that in the total global electric vehicle sales of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, Geely Group from China ranked second in the first five months, surpassing the US-based Tesla. BYD (1.59 million units) remained in the lead for the second consecutive year, with the top two positions both occupied by Chinese companies.
Recently, market research company SNE Research stated that Geely Group's electric vehicle sales (approximately 790,000 units) increased by 77.3% compared to the same period last year. Tesla, which ranked second last year, saw its sales (approximately 540,000 units) decrease by 16% during the same period, dropping to third place.
Tesla's sales in Europe, where CEO Elon Musk's remarks caused controversy, were approximately 80,000 units in the first five months of this year, a sharp decline of about 34% year-on-year. Sales also performed poorly in North America (approximately 220,000 units, -13.8%) and China (approximately 200,000 units, -7.8%). On the other hand, Geely Group experienced a surge in domestic demand in China, reversing Tesla's position.
China's overall electric vehicle sales in the first five months (approximately 4.72 million units) increased by 39.2% year-on-year.
