South Korean media: Even in the era of electric vehicles, Toyota RAV4 remains the best-selling car in the world!

On July 29, South Korean media "Herald Economy" published an article stating that as the global automotive market rapidly restructures around electric vehicles, the Toyota RAV4, based on internal combustion engines, once again became the best-selling vehicle globally. In the 2024 annual sales data, RAV4 surpassed Tesla Model Y by 2,000 units to win the championship.

This ranking was released by automotive industry analyst Felipe Muñoz, combining official statistics from 153 countries, dealer associations, customs data, car websites, and blogs. It is said that these rankings reflect about 99% of global sales.

In 2024, the combined sales of Toyota RAV4 and the China-exclusive model "Highlander" reached approximately 1.187 million units. Tesla Model Y followed closely with sales reaching 1.185 million units, ranking second.

RAV4 is about to undergo a comprehensive redesign, while Tesla has already launched its redesigned Model Y - Juniper. Additionally, Model Y remains the best-selling electric vehicle globally.

The Toyota Corolla Cross ranked third with sales of 859,000 units. Due to its wide sales in multiple markets globally, its demand remains strong. Following closely are Honda CR-V and the China-exclusive model "Acura", with sales of 854,000 units, ranking fourth.

The fifth and sixth places were also occupied by Toyota. The Corolla and Levin sedans sold 697,000 units, while the Hilux pickup truck sold 617,000 units. Although the Hilux is not available in North America and the Chinese market, it still maintains the title of the best-selling pickup truck globally. The Ford F-150, which is only sold in the United States, sold 595,000 units, ranking seventh.

The Toyota Camry ranked eighth with sales of 593,000 units, proving its strong performance in the sedan market. The Tesla Model 3 ranked ninth with sales of 560,000 units, while the Chinese BYD Qin ranked tenth with sales of 502,000 units. BYD is the only Chinese brand on the list, demonstrating its global competitiveness not only in pure electric vehicles but also in hybrid vehicles.

Toyota had as many as five models in the top ten, once again proving the strength of its internal combustion engine brand. Even in the wave of transitioning to electric vehicles, it continues to maintain stable competitiveness due to high brand reputation and a global production and distribution network.
