Rosatom: Uzbekistan's Small Nuclear Power Plant to Start Construction in Mid-2026
Sputnik Moscow, January 27 - Rosatom Corporation stated that the small nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan, which is being built with Russian participation, is planned to start construction in mid-2026.
Earlier, the President's Office of Uzbekistan announced that on January 27, Uzbekistan's President Mirziyoyev met with the General Director of Rosatom, Likhachev.
According to Rosatom: "The implementation of the Uzbekistan nuclear power plant project is proceeding according to plan. After the contract was signed in May 2024, the excavation work for the foundation pit of the first unit of the small nuclear power plant started in October 2025. The next key phase is the start of concrete work, which is scheduled to be carried out in mid-2026."
Likhachev told the media in Tashkent that he believes the concrete pouring work at the construction site of the Uzbekistan nuclear power plant will start much earlier than December 2026.
Likhachev said: "The Uzbekistan nuclear power plant project has also attracted the attention of foreign investors, and third countries are willing to participate in this project."
In May 2024, the first export contract for a small power nuclear power plant in history was signed in Tashkent, stipulating the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan. Rosatom is the general contractor for the nuclear power plant.
In September 2024, Uzbekistan Atomic Energy Company signed documents to start construction of the nuclear power plant site with Rosatom.
In October 2025, the construction of the power plant trench began. The Uzbekistan Atomic Energy Company plans to obtain the construction permit for the nuclear power plant in early 2026, and plans to carry out the first concrete pouring in March 2026.
