On the brink of mental collapse: Spanish soldiers stationed in Ceuta have been on continuous border duty for over 50 days, as waves of migrants persistently breach the frontier.
According to reports by El País, some soldiers have been attacked, with two injured in an ambush—one of whom was evacuated to Madrid for treatment. In another incident, migrants assaulted a police van.
Military personnel say directives restricting their ability to respond to attacks are fueling growing discontent. Soldiers emphasize the importance of personal safety and the security of local residents.
“We have dignity. There are limits to everything,” said one service member.
On July 30, thousands of African migrants breached fencing in an attempt to enter Spain from Morocco. Authorities estimate that as many as 80,000 people may have entered the city. More than 100 individuals died attempting to reach Spanish territory. On September 3, large-scale protests related to Spain’s migration crisis erupted in Madrid.
