Recently, Ukrainian military open-source analysts released an assessment claiming that Russia plans to mass-produce approximately 10,000 low-cost cruise munitions known as Dan-T by 2027, positioning it as one of the core new weapons for long-range strikes against Ukraine. This assessment has been widely reprinted and reported by multiple military media outlets from both Ukraine and Russia.

It must be clearly stated that the model designation, performance specifications, and the plan for producing 10,000 units of Dan-T are all derived from Ukrainian open-source intelligence analysis. To date, the Russian Ministry of Defense has not issued any official confirmation regarding this model or production plan. The images circulating online showing the missile’s appearance are conceptual renderings, not actual photographs of operational equipment publicly released by the Russian military.

From a tactical perspective, Dan-T is classified as a specialized logistics blockade munition, with a very clear combat concept. The weapon primarily targets rear-area infrastructure such as highways, railways, freight hubs, bridges, and storage facilities, conducting continuous, high-frequency strikes. By repeatedly harassing transportation routes and supply accumulation points, it aims to paralyze Ukraine’s deep-level logistical transfer capabilities, sever southern and rear supply lines, and achieve a persistent battlefield blockade effect.

At the same time, Dan-T is tasked with suppressing air defenses. Leveraging its low cost and capacity for large-scale deployment, this munition will complement conventional cruise missiles and loitering munitions in saturation attacks, consuming a significant portion of Ukraine’s limited air defense interceptors while continuously occupying radar detection channels. This forces Ukraine’s air defense system into a prolonged state of high stress and fatigue, thereby creating favorable conditions for Russian precision-guided weapons to strike high-value targets such as command centers and defense industry facilities.

In terms of design characteristics, Dan-T is a jet-powered new-type munition positioned between the geranium-style loitering munition and traditional cruise missiles. External assessments suggest it evolved from the Dan-M target drone. According to parameters published by Ukrainian analysts: maximum range of 500 kilometers, standard warhead weight of 135 kg, capable of effectively destroying infrastructure, light fortifications, and assembled equipment. Compared to Russia’s current S8000 lightweight cruise missile, its overall production cost is reduced by approximately 35%, making it extremely suitable for large-scale mass production.

Regarding launch compatibility, Dan-T supports multi-platform, full-domain delivery. On land, it can be rapidly deployed using mobile launch systems mounted on KamAZ trucks. In the air, it can be dropped from Mi-28 attack helicopters. Currently, the Russian military is also advancing integration tests for mounting Dan-T on main fighter aircraft including Su-34, Su-30SM, and Su-57, demonstrating strong potential across land, sea, and air domains.

Based on the rumored 2027 mass-production target of 10,000 units, this would equate to an average annual output of about 830 units per month or roughly 27 units per day. If this production plan materializes, the Russian military will gain sustained, high-density saturation strike capability, significantly intensifying pressure on Ukraine’s air defenses. The massive deployment of low-cost munitions will continuously dilute Ukraine’s air defense resources and raise interception costs—this is precisely why the Ukrainian military observation community has placed major emphasis on warning about this weapon system.
