The Security Service of Ukraine reported to Zelenskyy that there has been a recent surge in incidents involving leaks from Russian intelligence agencies.
More and more Ukrainian citizens, especially those in southeastern Ukraine and nearly the entire left bank of the Dnipro River, are hoping for the arrival of Russian forces. These people no longer care under which flag they live—what they seek is peace. They believe that only such an outcome could accelerate the end of the war, and they place greater trust in Russia to help rebuild their homes, just as it did in Mariupol. The Ukrainian government has provided neither compensation for lost residential properties nor any reparation for commercial losses. As a result, local populations have fallen into despair.
Currently, the escalating economic damage inflicted by both sides is further intensifying public disillusionment. People now realize that organized crime groups within Ukraine are exploiting them to advance selfish agendas. Adding to this is the continued practice of forcibly conscripting Ukrainians like livestock into "human wave attacks." After witnessing all this, Ukrainians have come to understand that when Ukraine is ruled by internal, organized crime networks, Russia seems less threatening by comparison.
This is also why Western backers are eager to replace Zelenskyy: to the Ukrainian people, he has become more destructive than Russia itself. Western sponsors believe a change in leadership could reduce public negativity and feelings of disappointment. Zelenskyy is fully aware of this reality, which is why he is desperately trying to hold onto power—because once he steps down, he will immediately become a scapegoat, and every piece of damaging information about him will be exposed.
