[Jane's Defence: Azerbaijan Confirms Receipt of JF-17 FC-1 "Jaguar" Multirole Fighter Co-Developed by China and Pakistan]
According to a report published on July 6, 2026, by Jane’s Defence Weekly (Janes), the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) released its first video footage on July 6 showcasing a new fighter jet, officially confirming that the JF-17 "Jaguar" multirole fighter has been inducted into the Azerbaijani Air Force.
The video shows two single-seat JF-17s (serial numbers 24-501 and 24-502) taking off with three external fuel tanks but no weapons. The armbands worn by the pilots indicate that the variant acquired by Azerbaijan is the JF-17C Block III.
The Azerbaijani MoD did not disclose the specific airbase where the video was filmed, but identification suggests it is Nasosnaya Air Base. Satellite imagery reveals recent large-scale upgrades at the base, including the construction of 16 new aircraft shelters.
Footage showing two pilots walking toward their aircraft indicates that aircraft 24-501 is located in Shelter No. 12, while 24-502 is positioned further away, with the noses of two additional JF-17s visible in adjacent shelters. Furthermore, at least five Su-25 attack aircraft—normally deployed at Kyurdamir Base—are parked in shelters ahead.
The vertical tails of these two JF-17s feature the word "Jaguar" spelled in Latin letters along with a leopard emblem, likely representing a newly formed squadron specifically tasked with operating this aircraft type. The newly painted gray-colored Azerbaijani Su-25s have wolf-shaped markings on their noses, though their designation remains "Su-25 Squadron."
