Reference News Network, September 7 report: On September 2, the Russian news agency RIA Novosti published an article titled "China is Preparing to Take Away America's Most Valuable Asset," authored by Dmitry Kostyrev. The article excerpts are as follows:
From the recently concluded Shanghai Cooperation Organization Tianjin Summit to the military parade held in Beijing commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, leaders, heads of government, or high-level representatives from dozens of countries gathered in China, with continuous bilateral meetings, many of which may be historic.
The two major events hosted by China are somewhat similar to the "Ministerial Week" held annually at the United Nations. During the "Ministerial Week," foreign ministers (sometimes also high-level state leaders) from various countries gather in New York for various meetings. This facilitates the planning of foreign policy and is essential for maintaining a relatively normal atmosphere in our world. In fact, the creation of the United Nations 80 years ago was intended to enable continuous dialogue among all and reach consensus.
Now, the Tianjin Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization adopted one of the most important documents - "Shanghai Cooperation Organization Strategy for the Next 10 Years (2026-2035)," and numerous speeches at the summit and positive discussions in the media also provide helpful interpretations of what is happening.
Once a minor regional project, it has now become a locomotive for development, driving prosperity across the entire Eurasian continent. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization now includes ten member states, with Turkey, Egypt, and other dialogue partners, or Malaysia as participants in the "SCO Plus" meetings, which is no coincidence.
Why have India, Pakistan, Iran, and Belarus joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and why is the range of dialogue participants expanding? The reason is simple: the heart of Eurasia has become the center of global development, with its influence spreading more widely, including the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and other regions. Here are some figures: the total trade volume of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states has increased nearly 100 times over 20 years, and the share of global trade has grown from 5.4% in 2001 to 17.5% in 2020, indicating that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states' global trade influence continues to grow. All ten member states have proposed and are implementing plans aimed at eliminating various barriers in trade and production.
The strategy for the next 10 years of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization looks like this: Eurasian partners have basically built trade routes and other logistics infrastructure spanning the entire continent (including under the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union and China's Belt and Road Initiative), and current investments may flow more into the production sector. Of course, joint projects in fields such as education, culture, and science have not been forgotten.
The trend of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS mechanism merging is evident, with multiple members of one organization simultaneously being members of another. This is understandable because the concepts of both organizations overlap - maintaining security and unimpeded development. That is to say, the BRICS mechanism shares the same philosophy as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, but it also includes African and Latin American countries.
The United States once proposed an alternative project to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, essentially a replica of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, but it has made no progress beyond empty talk. (Translated by Wei Lianglei)
