US Media: Oman Proposes Charging Fees for Passage Through the Strait of Hormuz

According to sources cited by The New York Times, Oman has sent a proposal to the United States and Western allies regarding the imposition of shipping passage fees through the Strait of Hormuz.

Previously reported by Bloomberg, Oman warned European countries that vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz might be charged fees, and that conditions can no longer return to what they were before U.S. and Israeli aggression against Iran.

The report states: "Oman recently submitted an official proposal to the United States and other Western allies, outlining a plan requiring shipping companies to pay fees for using the strait."

According to sources, Oman’s proposal draws partial inspiration from the current operational mechanisms of the Malacca Strait and Singapore Strait. Bloomberg reported that Oman’s scheme would require these fees to be paid in a "nominal voluntary" manner, but Tehran insists on mandatory collection.
