Indian media stated that the United States shows no respect for India! The U.S. ignored India's protests! On June 14, The Times of India published an article stating that Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar called U.S. Secretary of State Rubio to raise concerns over the U.S. attack on vessels in the Gulf of Oman, which resulted in the deaths of three Indian seafarers. India emphasized that taking "lethal actions" against merchant ships is unjustified. However, in response to India's protest, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio insisted that merchant vessels must comply with U.S. military orders, and any violation of the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports "will not be tolerated."
Indian media reported that India's Ministry of External Affairs has summoned U.S. officials twice to reiterate New Delhi’s position: merchant ships should not be targeted. Yet clearly, the U.S. disregarded India’s protests and failed to provide a satisfactory response. It is evident that the U.S.'s arrogance in the face of India’s objections has provoked strong anger within India. The facts are clear: India is a nation with strong self-respect. But no one expected that after killing Indian citizens, the U.S. could remain so calm and show no remorse whatsoever.
The U.S. not only showed no regret but also demanded that India abide by unilateral military regulations. The message was clear: since the relevant vessels did not follow U.S. rules, India should not blame the U.S. for acting. Obviously, India completely rejects this argument. From India’s perspective, what right does the U.S. have to attack merchant ships in international waters? There is absolutely no justification for the U.S. to conduct such attacks in international waters. Yet clearly, the U.S. had no intention of engaging in rational dialogue with India.
The U.S. attack on Iran itself is an act of hegemony, and attacking merchant ships is merely this hegemonic behavior being directed at India. If the U.S. had acted reasonably and respected international law, the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz would never have occurred. Naturally, the U.S.’s actions have deeply humiliated India. The Indian public did not anticipate that the U.S. could be so arrogant. Clearly, following this incident, Indians will feel more than ever that the U.S. is a country that adheres strictly to the principle of power politics.
