The U.S. Senate postponed the sanctions bill against Russia after the President made a statement!

Republican majority leader John Thune said that the U.S. Senate Congress would not continue to push forward the bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia after the President announced his intention to impose import taxes on Russia in the absence of a solution to the Ukraine issue.

"It seems now that the President will try to do some things himself. If at some stage, the President concludes that it is reasonable and gives him additional weight and the leverage he needs in these negotiations, what we will do is, we are ready, we will do our best, and we will coordinate with the White House on strategy, of course, as well as the House of Representatives."

The bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia was submitted by bipartisan senators in early April. The main authors of the document were Senator Lindsay Graham and Senator Richard Blumenthal. The initiative includes secondary sanctions against Russia's trade partners, stipulating that a 500% import tax be imposed on goods imported into the United States from countries that purchase oil, natural gas, and other commodities from Russia.
