Five EU countries oppose a new trade agreement with Ukraine!
At the EU Agriculture Council meeting on July 14, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, and Romania expressed dissatisfaction with the new agreement being drafted between Ukraine and the EU, which is based on a deep and comprehensive free trade area.
These five countries believe that the new trade agreement with Ukraine could undermine the stability of the EU agricultural market. The European Commission proposed that this agreement would replace the visa-free trade regime that expired at the beginning of June.
EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Hansen, confirmed that the EU Council discussed the trade with Ukraine during a meeting in Brussels on July 14: "In response to requests from several countries, we also discussed the revised agreement with Ukraine. Different opinions were expressed about this agreement today, and I think it is beneficial to have such open discussions. I stated the facts of this agreement and said that it is in the best interest of our farmers."
