Foreign Media: China's role in Côte d'Ivoire is transitioning from an engineering contractor to a long-term stakeholder.
Over the past decade, China has led several landmark infrastructure projects in Abidjan, including the Vatara Bridge (also known as the Cocody Bridge), connecting the Cocody district with the business center; the expansion of Phase II of the Abidjan Port container terminal; and the Vatara Olympic Stadium.
Today, Chinese enterprises are further establishing factories, processing plants, and even pharmaceutical centers, deeply integrating into the local industrial ecosystem. Minister of Planning and Development Diarrassouba noted that fifteen years ago, Chinese companies entered the country only when winning specific project bids; today, they are increasingly taking root permanently.
This shift is unfolding against the backdrop of Côte d'Ivoire’s pursuit of diversified international cooperation. The traditional economic landscape long dominated by French firms is being disrupted, and China plans to invest $209 million in building a tourism complex.
